Monitor and audit Windows files and folders on your network

The LANGuardian Windows File Share Monitor module tells you exactly what is happening on your Windows infrastructure. It monitors and records every access to your Windows file shares, recording details of user name, client application, server name, event type, file name, and data volume. Windows File Share Monitor stores this information in a database, and uses it as the basis for a wide range of reports that you can access via the browser-based user interface.

The LANGuardian core monitoring system comes with a number of optional modules as well as the Windows File Share Monitor that extend monitoring, intrustion detection and analysis capabilities on your network. Other modules include the Bandwidth Quota Monitor, SQL Server Database Monitor, Email Monitor and the Web Browser Monitor.

Monitoring files on your network

The LANGuardian Windows File Share Monitor module provides total visibility of user activity on Microsoft Windows fileshares throughout the network. You can build customized reports of data such as bandwidth usage and file share events. You can filter the output by user, department, and server, and you can drill-down to more granular information such as individual users and files.

Report on file events

Windows File Share Monitor reports are presented in a summary format, with filtering to enable you to see activity associated with individual users or servers, and drill-down capability to enable you to view more detailed information on the activity that interests you.

Windows File Share Monitor comes with a set of pre-configured reports that provide data for common network and system administration scenarios. You can also create custom reports to meet your own requirements.

Auditing file shares for compliance

Windows File Share Monitor enables you to maintain a comprehensive audit trail on all file shares on your network so you can demonstrate compliance with standards. If abuses or security breaches occur, they will immediately come to your attention so that you can take corrective action to prevent them recurring.

Note: Ability to associate events with user names requires the optional Active Directory module to be installed.

Search

Windows File Share Monitor includes a search capability that you can use to quickly see all events associated with a specific user or specific files.
