NetFort Technologies announced the release of LANGuardian 8.0 in September 2009. This major update is the result of a significant engineering effort based on innovative research and extensive customer consultation. LANGuardian 8.0 User interface and reporting enhancements Email Monitor Bandwidth Quota Monitor The latest release of NetFort LANGuardian includes a new database auditing module for SQL Server databases. With the SQL Server Database Monitor, you can be alerted to anomalous activity that poses a risk to sensitive business data or your database infrastructure, detect fraudulent activity, and more easily meet your compliance obligations. To find out more information, visit the new SQL Server Database Monitor website. Web client detection LANGuardian 8 uses advanced Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) technology to detect what web browsers are in use on your network. For every flow of HTTP traffic, it decodes the User-Agent string to identify the browser and version number. You can use this feature to ensure that your user base conforms to agreed browser standards and to detect the use of prohibited devices on the network. find out more... Web Client Detection blog entry Pcap Sensor The new pcap file sensor type allows LANGuardian to import packet capture files generated by third party applications, perform analysis and present results using the standard report set. Use an application such as Wireshark or tcdump, to capture traffic from a section of your network that is not monitored by LANGuardian and upload it. Then use the standard report set to analyse or troubleshoot whatever issues exist. Alerts on Reports Alerts on reports improves the flexibilty of LANGuardian alerting. Using this feature in conjunction with the Custom Report feature, LANGuardian can be configured to generate alerts when certain, user defined conditions or events are seen. For example, a custom report can be created that shows all client systems that generate more than 1GB of network traffic in a 2 hour period. If this occurs, then an event is generated. Using this technique a series of policy, or business use cases can be configured and LANGuardian will automatically alert of any deviations. Device Locator The LANGuardian Device Locator utility assists the Administrator in identifying where devices are connected to the network, by locating the Network Switch and Network Switch port that a particular device is connected to. A GUI interface is supplied that allows the user to search by IP address or by MAC address. Use this feature, in conjunction with the 'New MAC Address' alert to discover where unauthorised devices are being connected to the network, or to find the location of misconfigured systems that are using someone else’s IP address. Try it out! If you would like to try out the new features in LANGuardian 8.0, please contact support@netforttechnologies.com. And remember, this upgrade is free to existing customers! |
